Consider the following statement: "We spend more time connecting online but less time connecting in person." Do you agree or disagree with this antithesis? Explain your perspective using personal experiences. Discuss how technology has influenced the way people communicate and build relationships. In your response, include at least one original example of antithesis.

I totally agree with the notion that we spend more time communicating digitally rather than physically. My life has been significantly affected by technology in the way I interact with people. For instance, I send numerous messages to my friends using my phone, communicate using voice chats online, but we arrange face-to-face meetings far too rarely. Even though the use of technologies enables me to be always connected to people, this is what takes the place of personal interaction. Relationships have been affected by technology due to the fact that we communicate faster and easier and thus meet less often.

In class today, we furthered our knowledge of rhetorical devices with litotes and antithesis. I came to understand that litotes makes its point through the use of a word that is contrary to the situation, while an antithesis sets up a contrast between ideas. Following the definition of these terms, we practiced making up our own sentences.

Knowledge about rhetorical devices will assist me to identify techniques used in persuading and communicating effectively in future.
